Book Talk Thursday: Good Night Gorilla

Image from Amazon.com
Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann is Abby's newest book obsession. I'm not sure what started it, but now she can't seem to get enough of this book! When I offer to read her other books, she pushes them aside and reaches for this one. She will actually bring it to me and plop down in my lap for me to read it to her. And we have it in both the boardbook format and the hardcover with normal pages, so she always seems to know where one of them is...

There are very few words in this book. The story is mostly told in pictures, so I've done a little commentary for them as we turn the pages so Abby continues to associate certain words with certain pictures. The one page with the most words is of all the animals saying "Good night" in the dark (makes me think of the Waltons :) and now whenever I get to that page Abby starts babbling, trying to say "Good night" seven times.

It's not my favorite book to read to her, but as long as she likes it and snuggles with me while we read it, we'll keep going!

did you notice where the balloon is in almost every picture, slowly floating away?

I agree, it's not my favorite book either. Not sure about the message is sends that sneaking around and breaking out of jail is good.

I'm not crazy about this book. It annoys me that there aren't words on every page. I don't like making up my own. Haha. That's adorable that Abby loves it, though. And I agree that anything that invites cuddling is a good thing!!

You know Rock, I haven't noticed the balloon. I have noticed the mouse pulling the banana on each page, and things like the keys and the flashlight and the clock...

I'm hoping this book is just a phase that will end soon ;)

Nathanael became a fan of this book a few months back and still enjoys it. We make animal sounds, and he finds the different objects that repeat, and our favorite page is the wife with the shocked look on her page. We do an extravagant "Oh!" and imitate her look. :) haha Anyway, we adults might not love this book; but I know a ton of kids that love it

@Kim, that is Abby's favorite page too! She squeals every time!
